Welcome to Term 3

Nga mai, haere mai whanau, I hope you've had a refreshing break and are ready to jump into our Term 3 of learning.  I'm almost ready to go....a few bruises from trying to learn to ski (and falling down some stairs)....a good story to tell though along with some fun photo's for my 'news' on Monday morning......in the meantime, check out the 'perceptual shift ambigram' I've posted below....and can you guess where I was on my holiday from the picture? I have received a lot of messages through from the library with people with overdue books - these were meant to be returned on the last week of school - please can you check to make sure you don't have any 'stray books' at home. Please can you also make sure that your tamariki have all the tools they need for their learning for the term.  This should include a ruler, pens and pencils.  Thank you!

End of Term 2

Thanks for a fantastic term Room 6.  We've worked hard and accomplished so much.  Thank you for your kindness towards one another, your resilience and your willingness to persevere with your learning.  You are truly demonstrating the qualities of the Oakura School Learner Profile.  Winning the best class in assembly today was the icing on the cake!  Have a safe and happy term break.  See you in Term 3.  Mrs Salisbury.

Golf

Can you believe we had golf lessons today on the last day of term?  Thanks to Murray from Golf Taranaki for this fun session on putting skills.  Oralee & Finley were the accuracy champions of the day winning a $5 YoTub voucher each.  Well done guys.

Symmetry

We have spent this last week of term looking at 2D & 3D shapes, symmetry, co-ordinates and translation, rotation, reflection and tessellations.  We've had alot of fun exploring geometry.  Shayla and D'Angelo built some symmetrical creations out of blocks one wet day before school.  Good job team!

Simple Machines

This term our Inquiry has been around Simple Machines.  Our final project was to build a simple machine that fitted a very specific brief.  The machines below fitted the brief of either a machine to make life in the kitchen easier OR an ORC War Machine straight out of the Hobbit.  They had to include one or more qualities of a simple machine.  Can you pick which ones meet which brief?

Pyjama Day!

What a great excuse to dress in our pyjama's for the day - to raise funds for foster children who often arrive at their new homes with little or nothing.

Famous Musical Moments

They came, they composed, they played, they sung - they rocked it! Room 6 have been having music lessons this term with Sam.  We have been learning to play the basic chords of the tune Happier by Marshmellow.  What a fantastic afternoon we had performing to friends and family. As well as our class performance we had a couple of other performances from some special groups.  Firstly, the Year 5/6 band had written and composed a beautiful song in response to the recent Christchurch tragedy.  It was beautiful and thought provoking and delivered with a real grace and poise. Finally, the Year 7/8 Ukelele group performed a fun and lively song 'Old Town Road' with a hint of humour half way through. All in all, an enjoyable afternoon.
