Quail of a Time!

We had some special visitors in Room 6 this afternoon.  Baby Quails!  The Barrett family hatched them in an incubator.  Some fascinating facts about quails: Their scientific name is  Coturnix ypsilophora australis Fully grown they only weigh about 100gm and are about 18cm tall It is difficult to find out whether they are male or female and this is mostly determined by their behaviour as they develop They eat mainly grass, wee, shrub seeds, some flowers and insects Room 6 thinks they are also pretty cute!

Pukeiti Visit

Wow!  What an amazing day we had at Pukeiti.  Room 6 were the first ever school group to embark on a new track that Pukeiti are building through an old tram line.  This track will eventually link up to the top of Surrey Hill Road, include a Dr. Seuss themed overnight hut and incorporate mountain bike tracks.  Just awesome! We had an epic 4 hours in the bush, crossing swing bridges, peering into paint holes, seeing abandoned tram rails and crossing stream beds.  These are just a few of our photo's.

Welcome to Room 6 2019!

Room 6 is made up of 28 learners - 27 enthusiastic, passionate learners and their teacher.  We are just one classroom of 4 in our Year 4/5/6 team.  We are really excited about our year ahead.  We are looking forward to developing and practising the traits of manaakitanga (inclusiveness), manawaroa (resilience), maia (confidence) and auaha (innovation) as we continue on our learning journey together.  We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
