Swim Safe Lessons

We were so lucky to have Cecilie from Swim Safe NZ with us today! She has been up skilling our staff on ideas for teaching swim safety. We had so much fun! Did you know that we don't teach 'swimming' at school, that rather, our focus is on being safe in and around all types of water - the beach, pools, rivers and lakes.

Ju-Jitsu Champion

One of our young men competed in the 2020 Ju-Jitsu Oceania Championships in Auckland over the weekend.  Well done - check out that medal haul!

Cricket Skills

Thanks to Taranaki Cricket for bringing us Cricket Skills this term.  This week we have been learning to throw and catch.

Beach Education Term 1, 2020

Kia Ora whanau, Beach Education day was so much fun - we learnt the importance of knowing what to do if we are caught in a rip, we had a look around the NPOB surf club facilities and finished with some games and swims at the beach. Talk to your tamariki about what they learnt, see if they can tell you the four things that identify a rip.

Surf Competition

Yesterday four Room 6 students (along with students from other classes) competed in the Taranaki Championships at Fitzroy Beach.  They had great success. Darcy got two first placings and finished first overall in her age group. Ella received a first and a second placing, finishing second behind Darcy. Duncan received two seconds and a fourth overall and Benjamin received two firsts and a first overall. Congratulations team!

Toy Creations

This term we have been looking at toys and their ethical and environmental sustainability. We had a guest speaker come and talk to us about Trade Aid and their efforts to be an ethical organisation by paying the creators of their goods directly without need for a 'middle man'. We looked at different countries and their toys and mapped where our own toys come from. We also looked at the NZ Buzzy Bee toy and other NZ made toys. We have finished our unit of work by planning, creating, revising plans and then finally building our own toys and games. This afternoon we spent some time playing one another's games.
